Unreal Engine/Blender

Image
I started off using the landscaping tool to do the centre stage part. I then needed a 3rd party asset of a lava rock, which i was able to find on Turbo Squid. I decided to go with just a rock texture but i multiplied the rocks and began creating the scene! Some lighting and more rocks! There were importing issues with Unreal Engine so i ended up having to Render in Blender. This wasn't good at all, but fortunately it turned out well at least in my opinion. It's in the uploaded file!

The Swords

Image
This part will be fairly simple! Time to make the sword arms! Step 1: Get a Cube Step 2: Thin it, and stretch it Step 3: Loop Cut at centre, Merge Vertices at centre and then thin both edges for a sharp blade. You now have a Blade! Time to connect it to The Nightmare and give it a simple metal texture (Metal Textures are simple and already a part of blender that transfer to other software's! Which saves some time.)   Textured Blade! It now has a Blade arm! Now it's time for the second blade!  Step 1: Star with a thin but long square pole. Step 2: Nothing new here. Yet again just a bunch of Extruding and Scaling. This was the Result!  The Finished character! The Orb was just a sphere with Emission.

The Sculpting process

Image
First i subdivided the model so that it was able to have detailed sculpting done on it. This does make it have a lot of polygons, but we'll be able to reduce the poly count later on with our retopology.  I enabled Dyntopo (In acknowledge this is a tool that is seen as sometimes a bit risky as it can mess with topology, however without it the amount of detail we can add is limited. It also allows us to do whatever we like to the structure of the character as this is a very monstrous character.) Detail is at 5px. 5px is not really too necessary, however it allows more specific sculpting.  Wasn't too sure how to explain the sculpting however I'll try to explain it more with words than Images. The lines and details were all with the Draw Sharp tool, which draws into the object. I used the smoothing tool to smooth specific parts out and around the rough edges. I used the snake hook tool for the horns and for the ghost like leg section. I then also used the draw tool to add e...

The Box Model Process

Image
I got the greenlight on using Blender for the full process from Musaab hence why I'll be using it for most of the process! (Besides the End Render which will be with unreal!). First of all let's delete the camera and light for now (I'll need the light later to see what the model looks like under a light, but for now it can be deleted whilst I'm in Viewport Shading Solid mode.  The first thing i want to do is box model the head. So i'll start with the Cube already here.  For the first step, I extruded the bottom face of the cube and the scaled the face inwards. This gives us the bottom of the head. We'll be extruding the further to connect the neck and so on and so forth.  I did the same for the top of the head. We now have a basic head shape. We'll do the same for the rest of the body for now, and i'll explain it when that's done. I did the same for the neck! I extruded the bottom face down to the bottom of the Torso and then used the scaling tool to...

Concept Art

Image
I decided to go down the Monster route, as i have always loved creating monsters and creatures because its something I'm passionate about. Backstory: This character is called "The Nightmare". He absorbs the fear around him and becomes more powerful. He preys on what he refers to as "The Weak". He stalks people with silence & ambience, only striking when they know it's already over. I got this idea from a previous project called "The DeathRake" about and evil corrupted robot that hunted down an entire crew on a ship. The Nightmare is fully inspired by that previous character. I'm happy with how he turned out.    This is the side profile for the character. It's simple, but is quite helpful when it comes to modelling the character out!!  The one after (The Page tools were being weird so i have to do these together) is the prop. It's the Orb of Fear, which is what gives The Nightmare it's power. The Orb of fear can switch between Th...
